As we’ve been reflecting for the past month on Being Bold, I wanted to share about one of our missions partners, IberoAmerican Ministries.  While they’ve been sharing God’s word and planting churches in South America for over 40 years, in 2004 they displayed great boldness by sending a team into Northern Iraq.  While Iraq was embroiled in war, this team boldly went and began sharing the love of Jesus in the Kurdish area of the country. The result of that trip was construction of a center that continues to serve Kurdish families, and reaches out to refugees who have poured into Kurdistan the past several years.

The center provides enrichment classes through movement and music, English classes, sewing instruction, and computer training as well as community gatherings.  They have been able to demonstrate the love of Christ to Muslims with whom they develop relationships, and share of His love and purpose for their lives.

They’re also working with about 155 refugees, providing them with shelter, winter clothing, blankets, and food boxes.  They’ve been able to bring joy to the children by providing bicycles and special activities.  The special offering you generously gave in May provided $5,000 to purchase sewing machines for refugee women.  The women are brought to the center for instruction, and when they finish the classes they’re presented with a sewing machine so that they have the possibility to use their skills to help support their families.  Also, we’re so proud of our VBS children for raising $800 which will go towards the support of these refugee families!

As we consider how God is asking us to Be Bold, please remember our partners in Northern Iraq and pray for their protection and God’s favor as they bring His light to Kurdistan.
